The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety opened three sealed quotes for demolition of an unsafe, large structure at 719 W. Charles Street at its May 20, 2026 meeting. The Office of Community Development, represented by Nikita Adams, explained that a separate bid process was needed due to the building’s condition and size, and the quotes were taken under advisement rather than awarded on the spot. The scope includes full structure demolition, removal of a fuel oil tank, engineered fill placement and monitoring, and potential archaeological observation during basement wall removal, with a requirement that recycled materials not be used as fill. Quotes received were from Shroyer Solutions, JA Shroyer Group, and Yarberry Companies, ranging from 72850 to 84430, and the city now must evaluate and select a contractor. Vendors in demolition, environmental remediation, geotechnical/engineering oversight, and archaeological services can position for this project as subs or for similar upcoming nuisance property clearances managed by Community Development.
