The Police Department said the annual Independence Day fireworks event was costing about $5,175 in FY2027 for police staffing alone, with fire district costs estimated at about $1,000 each. Recreation Director Andy Rogers reported the Recreation Commission voted on Oct. 13, 2026 to suspend the event unless another group raised at least $7,500 more than budgeted and helped run it.
