From the meeting
At the October 20, 2026 study session, Council received a semi-annual update on the La Quinta Strategic Plan. The update said the City finalized a cost-share agreement in August for the Avenue 58 substation expansion with developers, Riverside County and Imperial Irrigation District (IID), and the City had appropriated $10 million. IID has since ordered the long lead-time equipment needed before construction can begin, and the City will be fully reimbursed by developers.
Similar cost-share agreements are now being considered for the Marshall, Jefferson and North La Quinta substations.
