From the meeting
At its September 4, 2026 meeting, Shelby County Board of Education staff recommended accepting a $38,100 Battelle Grant from the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network for multiple schools. The funding would support STEM or STEAM learning environments, technology, and project-based learning at White Station Middle, Hawkins Mill Elementary, Ross Elementary, John P. Freeman Optional, Keystone Elementary, Treadwell Middle, Whitehaven Elementary STEM School, Ida B.
Wells Academy, and Maxine Smith STEM Academy. This is grant-funded and already scoped to school sites, so the next conversation is about implementation and materials needs tied to the grant.
