THE 30-SECOND BRIEF

What's planned

As of 2026, the rebuilt strand swamp section of the Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk now connects to the newer glades marsh section, and the plan calls for careful design of a connector segment that will route all visitors through the new marsh‑side trailhead. Additionally, DRP intends to develop and implement an interpretive plan for the connection, including themes on Miccosukee heritage and differences between the glades marsh and old‑growth strand swamp, plus potential spur access to a Miccosukee village gift shop. This will require boardwalk engineering, landscape architecture, interpretive master planning, exhibit design, and tribal consultation support. Vendors specializing in boardwalk construction in wetlands, universal‑access design, and interpretive media can support design development and execution of both the physical connector and the associated interpretive experience.

Background

Hurricane Ian destroyed the original strand swamp boardwalk in 2022; reconstruction followed the historic footprint, and the connector now needs to unify visitor flow and storytelling.
