Saluda County Council approved continuing its heavy equipment lease program with Caterpillar Financial for two Cat motor graders, to be paid from the Heavy Equipment Reserve Account. The Vice-Chairman noted that the existing leases end in January 2027 and the new leases, through the state contract, will have monthly payments of 5544.52 and 5530.70, with equity from returning older units applied to the total lease amount. This decision confirms Caterpillar Financial and Cat motor graders as the incumbent solution for the County’s road grading needs through at least early 2027. While the primary decision is made, this offers intelligence on the County’s fleet strategy, renewal cycle, and reliance on state contract leasing, creating future opportunities for follow-on equipment, maintenance services, telematics, or competing proposals when the next lease cycle approaches.
