From the meeting
On October 27, 2026 the Georgia Board of Natural Resources authorized the Commissioner to request a Governor's Executive Order to demolish the Squirrels Nest Camping Area at Unicoi State Park in White County. The 624-square-foot, 50+ year old site includes elevated camping platforms and a bathhouse; staff said the structures are unsafe and beyond reasonable repair. The work is decided and moves into demolition and historic documentation, creating follow-on needs for razing, debris disposal, and any replacement planning.
