From the meeting
Chugach Mountain Institute Foundation requested $50,000 for three school and public programs - Sustainability Education, Wildlife Safety & Science, and Snow Safety & Science - plus outdoor education scholarships. The application ties the city money to curriculum development, field equipment, avalanche rescue gear, logistics, and scholarship support in Valdez and Thompson Pass. It also says the nonprofit was newly formed in late 2025 and is using Chugach Mountain Institute's instructors and infrastructure.

Questions about this project
What is a pre-RFP?
A pre-RFP is an early indicator that a government agency is planning a purchase — a project discussed in a board meeting, a budget line item, a new hire, or a grant award — captured before a formal RFP or bid is published. Acting on pre-RFPs gives SLED and B2G vendors months of lead time to build relationships and shape requirements.
When will City of Valdez issue an RFP for this project?
Pre-RFPs typically surface 6–18 months before a formal solicitation is published. Civic IQ tracks City of Valdez's meeting records, agendas, and budgets continuously and updates this pre-RFP as the project moves through the buying cycle toward an RFP.
How can vendors engage with City of Valdez before the RFP is published?
Vendors who reach out during the planning window can help shape requirements and build relationships with the decision-makers running the project. A free Civic IQ account unlocks this pre-RFP's source document, forecasted RFP timing, and verified City of Valdez decision-maker contacts.
