SUMMARY
The scope of work consists of seismic retrofit of the Waiale Gulch, Alae (Naalae Gulch), and Pulehu Gulch (Pohakuokala) Bridges along Haleakala Highway on Maui. Improvements include removal of debris from the piers; wrapping the piers with carbon fiber; removal of a portion of the backfill from behind the abutments and backfilling with CLSM and tying the abutment to the CLSM backfill; replacement of the creep blocks at the bents; pier footing upgrades; installing pavement, pavement markers, and temporary erosion control measures; installing scour countermeasures near Alae Bridge Pier 1; and traffic control.
