The Town of Petrolia is moving from feasibility to implementation planning for major greenhouse gas reduction retrofits at the Petrolia YMCA. Council is being asked on May 25, 2026 to approve an engineering proposal from CIMA+ Canada Inc. to design priority energy conservation and electrification measures and make the project “shovel‑ready” for federal and other funding programs.The current scope includes replacing gas‑fired domestic hot water with heat pump systems, a full LED lighting retrofit with occupancy controls, replacement of six air handling units and one make‑up air unit, and replacement of roughly half of the facility roof, for an estimated construction cost of about 2833000. The detailed design fee is 64700 plus HST, to be funded from the Working & Capital Fund, and will support applications to the Green Municipal Fund Sustainable Municipal Buildings stream and the new federal Build Communities Strong Fund. This is still a planning and pre‑construction phase, so vendors can position around design support, construction services, equipment supply, controls, and grant/financing advisory as the Town advances toward tendering over the next 12–18 months.

Town has already completed a GMF-funded GHG Reduction Pathway Feasibility Study estimating full ECM package at 6444000; this phase covers a subset of highest-priority measures. Town intends to stack Green Municipal Fund and Build Communities Strong Fund and potentially other grants.
