Coastal Permit Sought for Caltrans Geotechnical Work

The California Coastal Commission is considering conditional approval of a Coastal Development Permit for Caltrans to perform a four‑month geotechnical investigation at Last Chance Grade, including temporary access road construction and deep borings to support final design of a future tunnel bypass and related facilities. The work would occur fall 2026 through January 2027 on and adjacent to Highway 101 in Del Norte County.
