Caltrans is procuring hydrogen fuel cell and battery hybrid trainsets from Stadler to expand zero-emission intercity passenger rail service, with first deliveries expected in 2027–2028 and testing through 2029. Each four-car set will seat over 200 passengers and can be coupled to provide over 400 seats per train.
