The Town of Mono is completing a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment to address elevated arsenic in the Island Lake Drinking Water System and to accommodate future growth. Council is being asked to endorse a Preferred Alternative that will drill two new municipal wells at the Klondyke Gravel Pit, connect the Island Lake and Cardinal Woods systems via a new transmission main, decommission high-arsenic Island Lake wells in stages, and ultimately add an elevated water tower at the Klondyke site. The EA identifies this integrated supply and storage solution as having the lowest 20‑year net present cost and best ability to meet MECP arsenic standards and projected population growth.No construction contracts have been procured yet; next steps include MECP review of the Project File Report, a Notice of Completion with a 30‑day comment period, then design, approvals, procurement, and staged construction as funding becomes available, with conceptual capital costs for the water supply portion on the order of 33061000 and a water tower around 10725000. This creates a multi-stage capital program for engineering designers, construction contractors, equipment suppliers, and funding/grant advisors to help the Town move from EA approval into detailed design and phased implementation.

Preferred solution emerged from comparison of four water supply/treatment alternatives and three storage options; MECP has signaled expectations for arsenic mitigation and will review the Project File Report before Notice of Completion. Some growth-related components may be funded through development charges; other phases may seek provincial/federal grants.
