The Town of Harrison adopted a resolution on June 16, 2026 supporting the Preliminary Preferred Alternative for the replacement of the Hudson/Essex County Clay Street Bridge over the Passaic River and associated approach roadway improvements in East Newark and Newark. The project has completed a federally funded Local Concept Development study and is now in the Local Preliminary Engineering phase, with Hudson and Essex Counties seeking to proceed to Final Design and qualify for federal funding. This is a major movable bridge replacement on the existing alignment designed to better accommodate commercial and recreational river users and to reduce traffic disruptions from the deteriorated 1908 structure.As the project advances into Final Design and, later, construction procurement, there will be significant needs for engineering design support, environmental services, construction management, specialty bridge equipment, and traffic management solutions, largely funded with federal dollars and managed at the county/regional level.

Resolution is an updated local support requirement for inclusion in the LPE report to secure federal funding for Final Design.
