THE 30-SECOND BRIEF
The superintendent reported that the district will upgrade its Cat 5 cabling to Cat 6 in order to install Starlink for the 2026/2027 academic year, with Starlink components already onsite and installation scheduled for the last week of June. This indicates a decided move to a new connectivity platform and structured cabling upgrade. IT and facilities vendors can track this implementation for follow-on needs such as network equipment, Wi-Fi expansion, cybersecurity, and support once the new infrastructure is live.
Upgrade from Cat 5 to Cat 6 is directly tied to supporting the new Starlink connectivity solution.

Questions about this project
What is a pre-RFP?
A pre-RFP is an early indicator that a government agency is planning a purchase — a project discussed in a board meeting, a budget line item, a new hire, or a grant award — captured before a formal RFP or bid is published. Acting on pre-RFPs gives SLED and B2G vendors months of lead time to build relationships and shape requirements.
