Cameron University is adding an Associate in Science in Agriculture, delivered traditionally, to provide a shorter, workforce-oriented alternative to its existing BS in Agriculture for students in Southwest Oklahoma. The 66‑credit program will cover animal, plant, and soil science, agricultural economics, livestock feeding, and statistics, with guided electives targeted at roles like agricultural technicians, equipment operators, farmworkers, landscapers, and pesticide applicators—occupations projected to see modest employment growth and hundreds of annual openings. The program will be funded through reallocation of existing resources and new revenue, with no additional State Regents funding requested, and will re-use existing faculty and facilities.While this leaves less immediate capital spend, the new two‑year degree creates an expanded audience for agriculture‑related instructional materials, lab equipment, and employer-engagement tools, and signals ongoing demand from regional agribusiness partners such as Cotton Electric, Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, and Apache Farmer’s Cooperative for applied training and potential contract training or customized short courses.

Program is nested under Cameron’s existing BS in Agriculture and uses the same mission and learning outcomes; labor-market data from Lightcast shows 915 new agriculture-related jobs forecast 2026–2031 with only 184 associate-level ag graduates statewide.
