The Palo Alto City Council approved a one-year, $1.7 million agreement with Orion Security to staff 24/7 rail safety monitors at all city at-grade rail crossings starting February 23, 2026. The contract cost is split equally between the City and the Palo Alto Unified School District as part of an emergency suicide prevention effort.
