July 1, 2026 – July 1, 2036 (minimum ten-year term commencing on the later of July 1, 2026 and regulatory/bylaw approvals; expiring July 1, 2036)

Agreement term is a minimum of ten years starting the later of July 1, 2026 and completion of AUC and bylaw approvals, expiring July 1, 2036. Prior franchise agreements were renewed multiple times (1980, 1991, 2004, 2016). Section 3 allows continuation under the MGA after expiry with potential arbitration and a 50% franchise fee holdback in trust if no new agreement is executed within a year of expiry. The municipality retains rights at expiry or termination to require purchase of the distribution system under MGA provisions and maintains right of first refusal if ATCO sells the system.
