Wausau officials are considering a voluntary public crossing closure agreement with Fox Valley & Lake Superior Rail System L.L.C. to permanently close five at-grade crossings in exchange for supporting a new River Edge Parkway trail crossing near Gilbert Park. Under the proposed terms, FOXY will handle all closure work within its right of way while the City provides advance signage, surveying, and access accommodations, with two crossings closing by 2026 and three alleys by 2028.
