The Town of New Lebanon Board held a special meeting on June 1, 2026 to address a required UV water filtration system at the Community Center so it can serve as a second location for the Summer Youth Program. The New York State Department of Health requires a commercial system with an engineered design, and the town is working with Galusha HVAC after an initial residential quote proved non-compliant and the commercial system cost increased to around 10000 dollars. The Board approved a motion authorizing the Supervisor to execute a contract with Galusha HVAC for design of the system for up to 1200 dollars, and separately authorized the Supervisor to undertake procurement of the installation in accordance with the Town’s procurement policy so long as competitive bidding under GML 103 is not required.Final installation cost is still unknown; if the designed system is at or below 10000 dollars only two oral quotes are needed, and if above 10000 dollars three written quotes will be obtained. This creates an immediate opportunity for water treatment, plumbing, and mechanical contractors and equipment vendors to be ready to provide quotes for a commercial UV system installation once the design is complete.

Funding may be related to or constrained by separate discussions about the town’s 625000 dollars for landfill monitoring and conservative investment yield assumptions; NYSDOH has waived the separate engineer requirement and is allowing the contractor to design the system.
