The South Milwaukee Plan Commission is holding Meeting 2 on May 26, 2026 to discuss and potentially recommend wide-ranging amendments to Chapter 15 of the zoning code, including building heights and accessory structure setbacks, driveways and parking slabs, landscaping and screening standards, business signage, and relocation of construction/post-construction stormwater provisions into the stormwater chapter. Staff have produced detailed markups, example illustrations, driveway/parking diagrams, landscape material changes, sign area calculations for multi-tenant centers, and stormwater term repeals, and are asking the Commission to recommend approval of these changes to the Common Council. No outside consultant is named; staff (Economic Development, Engineering, Building Inspection) are leading the technical work. This creates an opening for zoning, planning, legal, and code publishing consultants or software providers to support ordinance drafting, code re-codification, public communication, permit workflow updates, and training for contractors and residents once the amendments are adopted. Vendors offering e-code platforms, permitting systems, traffic/parking studies, and sign or stormwater compliance tools could position services to help implement and operationalize the new standards across departments and the development community.
