The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District (NWMAD) reports active mosquito surveillance and abatement across 242 square miles, operating 36 traps and managing about 80,000 stormwater catch basins plus 10,000 above-ground aquatic sources. They are testing mosquito pools for West Nile virus (recently 47 batches with 3 positives) and have already treated over 50,000 catch basins this season, while also submitting 94 pools of deer ticks for Powassan and other viral pathogen screening. University of Minnesota is currently providing advanced viral pathogen screening for tick pools, suggesting an existing external lab services relationship.
