The Mill Valley City Council is considering an MOU with Mill Valley Softball to design and construct a package of capital improvements at the Hauke Park softball complex, including field surface work, dugouts, backstop and fencing upgrades, bullpen, snack shack, and bleachers. The City plans to contribute up to 50000 in cash toward eligible improvements plus up to 30000 in staff time, fees, and DPW expertise, with all work to be delivered via the City’s standard public bid process and programmed as a FY 26/27 capital project. Mill Valley Softball will fundraise the remaining costs (estimated total project cost around 276400) and must hire qualified design professionals and cover design, materials, labor, and equipment beyond the City’s contribution. Staff has also outlined an “Option B” under which Council could add up to 50000 in City funding focused solely on renovating the field of play (irrigation, outfield turf, infield work, fencing) to achieve playability by March 1, 2027, again with City-managed bidding and construction. This creates a near-term opportunity for landscape architects, sports field contractors, fencing firms, prefab snack shack and bleacher vendors, and construction managers to position for the upcoming bid package and to help scope alternates if Council expands funding beyond the base 50000 City contribution.
