The Garnet Lake Conservation Association asked the Town of Johnsburg to partner on a grant application to redesign the Garnet Lake dam, which is associated with a town-owned bridge and road. The grant would initially fund the design phase, potentially followed by a separate construction grant, with an estimated design cost that could exceed 100000 and a required 10 percent local match on a 50000–100000 grant. The board discussed liability, timing, and coordination with the Town of Thurman, and plans to consult NYSAOT about the urgency, with the possibility of an emergency meeting before the July 31, 2026 application deadline.No engineering firm has been selected for the redesign work yet beyond Collier Engineering’s 10000 scope to write the grant (funded by GLCA). This is a live pre-RFP opportunity for firms providing dam/bridge design, structural and hydrologic engineering, permitting support, and cost estimation, as the town will need a partner to deliver the actual design once funding is secured.

Collier Engineering is only engaged to prepare the grant application; GLCA is covering that 10000 fee, not the town.
