The Education and Research Center (ERC) received approval on May 21, 2026 to expand the budget for its GS 111‑077 IHL Parking Lots and Street Repairs project from a preplan level of $132,000 to a full project budget of $3,500,000. Following a 2025 road assessment by Smithers Engineers, the project will address critical failures in the campus loop road and parking areas, including sinkholes, water leaks, drainage problems, damaged curb and gutter, erosion, and widespread pavement deterioration that threaten access to state office buildings on site. 2M in construction and related work on key parking lots, loop road sections, landscaping, and wayfinding signage near the new Alyce G.Clarke Center for Medically Fragile Children) and Phase B (design‑only at this stage for entrance roads and remaining loop segments). Funding draws on multiple legislative sources and internal capital funds. With Smithers Engineers + Consultants already engaged for design but no contractor selected, this sets up a substantial paving and site work package likely to be advertised in the near term.
