The district and Eastern Suffolk BOCES approved a mutual modification of the existing Internet Access and FWAN Project (EI-IA-FWAN-040224-2024-2027), under which a 1 Gig circuit with DDoS currently provides internet access and a private line fiber network. As of June 30, 2026, the 1 Gig internet access portion will be discontinued early, while the remainder of the FWAN/private fiber agreement stays in force through June 30, 2027, to clear the way for new multi-year agreements providing internet access and related services at increased bandwidth and revised pricing. The board resolution again emphasizes the intent to enter new multi-year internet access agreements but confirms that nothing obligates either party until such agreements are formally approved. This creates a complementary planning opportunity around both the upgraded internet access and how it will interoperate with the remaining FWAN/private fiber network. Vendors can engage around designing higher-capacity access circuits, security, and monitoring that leverage the existing fiber network while planning for future renewals or expansions of the FWAN portion.
