The City of Walnut Creek is formally kicking off its Walnut Creek 2050 General Plan update, with a June 25, 2026 joint study session of the Planning, Design Review, Transportation, Park/Recreation/Open Space, and Arts Commissions. The Community Development Department and planning consultant Alta Planning + Design will present the overall update process and gather feedback on key issues and community priorities in each commission’s domain, with no formal actions taken at this meeting. This is an early-stage planning effort that will drive future land use, transportation, parks, arts, and development policies and capital priorities through 2050.While Alta Planning + Design appears to be the lead planning consultant already engaged, the breadth of the update suggests follow-on opportunities for specialized studies, modeling, public engagement, implementation tools, and eventual project-level design and engineering as policies are turned into funded projects. , mobility, parks, housing, arts facilities, infrastructure) and digital engagement or analytics tools as the city refines scope and work programs over the coming phases.
