The Cambridge Selectboard discussed challenges completing the ARPA-funded Greenway expansion as originally designed, due to right-of-way and permitting constraints, and the requirement that ARPA funds be fully expended by December 31, 2026. The Trails Committee and Selectboard are now considering shifting the project to related pedestrian improvements along an alternate Greenway route identified in a prior DuBois & King study, including extending sidewalk down Old Main Street to the bridge, reinstalling and upgrading flashing crosswalk beacons near 158 Main and the town hall, and potentially adding a new crossing by Mann’s Meadow. This creates a need for quick-turn design, permitting support, and construction services for sidewalk, curb, and crosswalk upgrades, likely within the 2026 construction season so ARPA deadlines are met.The committee has also identified replacement of asphalt shoulder-style sidewalk on Depot Street with a concrete, curbed sidewalk as another priority. Vendors offering civil/streetscape design, concrete/sidewalk construction, crosswalk beacons, and grant-compliance support can help Cambridge finalize scope, cost, and contracts rapidly to avoid leaving ARPA money unspent and to optimize the Greenway connectivity benefits for local businesses and residents.

Eric Boozan will advise the Trails Committee and assist with contracting; VTrans 1111 permits exist for one crosswalk and will be sought for additional crossings.
