The Building RF & Fire Paging Workgroup discussed the UL Certification Program for BDA installers and asked whether MPSCS would support implementing or requiring this program in Michigan, noting that major installers see a need for more uniformity despite added costs. They also highlighted minimum ECRES installer qualifications, recent inspection successes and gaps in schools, LARA Bureau of Construction Codes participation, and issues with non-registered BDA installs and complex BDA designs at a large data center, prompting technical guidance from MPSCS engineering. The workgroup is collecting desired BDA registration and certification requirements in preparation for a more robust registration and tracking platform and plans a vendor/manufacturer meeting that combines updates from this workgroup and the Encryption Workgroup.These discussions indicate forthcoming policy and possibly system changes that will affect BDA installers, radio vendors, and building owners; vendors can engage now to influence standards, prepare compliance offerings, and offer tools or platforms to support statewide BDA registration and monitoring.

Potential addition of UL certification and ECRES qualifications may become de facto requirements for installers working on public safety BDAs in Michigan.
