Sparta Municipal Airport reports that the federally funded Taxiway Connector Project will begin construction on June 15, 2026 following a pre‑construction meeting, with multiple scheduled nighttime runway closures through late July for construction, paving, and electrical work. Separately, bids were opened for the East Taxi Lane Project and Dean’s Excavating was awarded the construction contract, with work scheduled later in 2026 to improve access to existing and future hangars on the east side of the airport. These projects are in addition to ongoing hangar area site preparations and other development funded through State‑Local programs.The primary construction contracts are awarded or imminent, but the scale of airfield modernization and the airport’s proactive development posture signal continued demand for engineering, specialty aviation construction, electrical, lighting, safety, and future hangar‑related work. Vendors can position for subcontracts with Dean’s Excavating, upcoming MDOT Aeronautics–funded projects, and future phases tied to hangar development and increased traffic generated by new Jet A fuel services and a growing flight school.
