Shuniah completed a 12-week FoodCycler pilot with 72 households, staff, and Council, with Food Cycle Science providing devices, educational materials, and survey/analysis support. 65 tonnes/year from 72 units), reduced trips to the landfill, and very positive resident feedback, and recommend a Phase 2 program of about 350 units to reach roughly 20% of households, with added education, a refill station, and potential drop-off bins. Council is currently only receiving the report for information and discussion and has not yet approved a Phase 2 procurement or program design.This creates a pre-RFP opening for organics technology vendors, waste consultants, and communications firms to help scope funding models, design the expanded program (device deployment, refills, drop-off infrastructure), and integrate organics diversion into broader waste and landfill planning before any formal procurement is launched.

Food Cycle Science is the current pilot partner and is proposing a tax-recovery, municipally funded Phase 2 with a 5-year warranty, education plan, and infrastructure (drop-off bins, carbon refill station).
