Ordinance 852, scheduled for adoption June 15, 2026, updates Lakewood’s 2024 Shoreline Master Program to redesignate parcel #3085002170 from “shoreline residential” to “urban park” to support the planned expansion and improvements of Edgewater Park on Lake Steilacoom. The City adopted an Edgewater Park master plan in 2024, following a multi-year public process, that calls for schematic redevelopment including relocation of the public boat launch to this parcel to improve public, safety, and emergency access to the lake. The SMP update is a regulatory prerequisite; a separate rezoning to Open Space & Recreation will be handled with the 2026 Comprehensive Plan update beginning July 13. No construction contract is in place yet, so design detailing, permitting, final engineering, and eventual construction procurement for park expansion, a relocated boat launch, parking, and shoreline access improvements still lie ahead. This positions vendors in park design, landscape architecture, civil/shoreline engineering, permitting, and marine/launch construction to engage early as the City moves from planning to implementation.
