On May 12, 2026 the city approved an agreement appointing Dr. Noah Bernhardson as Physician Medical Director for Waverly Fire/Rescue for the period May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2028. The contract outlines responsibilities including annual protocol review, oversight of service quality, reporting and studies, input on equipment, supplies, and vehicle purchases, oversight of EMS continuing education, and annual training visits, in exchange for an annual fee of 2,500. This leadership appointment means Waverly’s EMS system will be under active clinical guidance, with explicit provisions for advising on future equipment and vehicle purchases and training needs. Vendors supplying EMS equipment, monitors, medication management, training programs, or ambulance build/retrofit services can align with the Medical Director’s priorities to support upcoming protocol changes, capital purchases, and education initiatives during the two-year term.
