On December 1, 2025, the Government Operations Committee reviewed a resolve to accept and appropriate $243,225 in grant funding from the Cole Foundation to support a community paramedicine program. Director Jennifer Gunderman explained that the program will deploy a paramedicine professional who responds to community needs rather than 911 calls, focusing on recently discharged hospital patients, individuals with chronic conditions, and residents facing social determinants of health challenges like housing instability or being uninsured. The program is being developed in collaboration with St. Joseph’s Hospital and Community Care Partnership of Maine and positions Bangor as an early adopter of integrated EMS-public health paramedicine. Vendors offering mobile health technology, remote monitoring, care coordination platforms, training, or evaluation services can approach the city and partners about supporting implementation, workflows, and outcome reporting for this grant-funded initiative.
