NYC Health + Hospitals has approved a construction contract with Crescent Contracting Corp. to complete a full sprinkler system upgrade at North Central Bronx Hospital, which is currently only partially sprinklered. The project will install a new fire pump and jockey pump, backflow devices, a new wet‑type sprinkler system with risers, valves and monitoring switches, a 2‑inch sprinkler drain riser, and associated electrical power, bringing the facility to 100% sprinkler coverage and into compliance with CMS regulations and NYC Department of Buildings fire codes ahead of the July 2028 deadline.11 over two years, with construction targeted from August 2026 through August 2028. Crescent has prior public‑sector experience and is already performing sprinkler work at Jacobi, and has committed to a 31% MWBE subcontracting plan, creating opportunities for specialty subs in fire protection, electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, insulation, and HVAC as well as vendors positioned for follow‑on testing, inspection, and maintenance work once the system is installed.

Only one bid was received despite six contractors touring the site; vendor responsibility approval is pending in Passport. The project requires an elevated contingency due to anticipated unknown existing conditions in an older hospital building.
