NFTA submitted a $4.2 million request to NYSDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program in March 2026 for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Access to DL&W Station via Shoreline Trail project, with a total project cost of $7.4 million. The project would construct a multi-use trail, entrance and gateway structures, landscaping buffers, lighting, sidewalks, fencing, and wayfinding between the new DL&W light rail station, the Shoreline Trail, and the Canalside and Cobblestone districts. Awards are expected in November 2026, so detailed design, permitting, and construction procurement are still ahead. This creates opportunities for firms specializing in trail and streetscape design, civil and structural engineering, lighting and security integration, as well as contractors experienced in urban waterfront trail construction and amenity installation.
