Monroe staff are presenting an informational overview of the Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) and Street Tree Inventory project to the Park Board on June 18, 2026. The project, already approved in the City’s 2025–2026 biennial budget with a contract executed, will evaluate long-term goals for the city’s urban forest, conduct a citywide inventory of public right-of-way and park trees, calculate and model tree canopy, and propose policy and program changes, including a final UFMP for Council review. The scope includes GIS-based canopy analysis, Esri-compatible data layers, mapping of planting opportunities, and a technical memo summarizing tree inventory findings, partly funded by the Parks Department and Public Works Stormwater. While the main consulting contract is in place, this work will likely drive downstream needs such as tree planting programs, maintenance contracting, software or data integration, and community outreach once the plan is adopted, so vendors in urban forestry services, GIS, asset management, and tree supply should track its progress and align to anticipated implementation actions.
