Destination Greater Victoria’s CEO Paul Nursey is presenting the process, findings, and recommendations of the Greater Victoria Hotel Development Working Group to View Royal’s Committee of the Whole on June 9, 2026. The Working Group study identified a need for 2,000 new hotel rooms in Greater Victoria over the next 10 years, found that hotel developments remain challenging even in a favourable window, and outlined policy, process, and partnership changes needed to make new projects viable, including work already underway in other municipalities. View Royal’s CAO and Director of Planning participated in the Working Group, and the Town also partnered with DGV on a View Royal Hotel Development Incentive Report by Floor 13 that fed into the regional work.This public presentation, paired with the tax exemption bylaw initiative, signals that the Town is actively positioning itself to land one or more hotel projects and is receptive to investment, feasibility support, and development concepts anchored in the Hospital Precinct and Western Gateway corridor. Vendors offering hotel development, feasibility, financing, architecture, and destination planning services have a timely opening to align proposals with the Working Group’s recommendations and View Royal’s local incentive strategy.

Province of BC has included Greater Victoria hotel development in its new tourism investment attraction efforts; City of Victoria and others have already adopted some process improvements from this work.
