At its March 24, 2026 meeting, the South Milwaukee Plan Commission received an update on the Scott Crawford Bucyrus Campus development projects at 1100 and 1022 Milwaukee Avenue, a Planned Development District that requires Commission approval of final plans for landscaping, lighting, parking, building design, signage, and site amenities. Building designs have already been fully completed and approved, but staff reported that site plans, landscaping and lighting plans were not fully completed, and that no signage submittals had been provided to date. Updated site plans were recently submitted to adjust traffic circulation in response to a Traffic Impact Analysis and concerns about heavy elementary school traffic using a shared northern entrance with an adjacent manufacturing property. This indicates that while core vertical design is set, there is still active planning and approval underway for external site components, circulation, and signage. Vendors in civil engineering, traffic design, landscape architecture, lighting, wayfinding, and sign fabrication can look for opportunities to support Scott Crawford or the City with compliant, context-sensitive solutions that address the shared access easement and pedestrian safety issues, as well as eventual implementation and maintenance of site improvements as the campus moves from planning to full operation.
