The Palo Alto City Council previously approved a $397,705 professional services contract with BKF Engineers to develop concept and final design plans, permits, and construction documents for safety improvements at the Alma Street and Charleston Road railroad crossing. The work is funded through the Section 130 Grade Crossing Improvement Program and supports near-term rail crossing safety upgrades.

Design phase funding is part of a $700,000 allocation under Service Contract No. 50LP298 between the City of Palo Alto and Caltrans Division of Rail and Mass Transportation.
